Replicon Co-CEO, Lakshmi Raj, Programmed for Success
Calgary, AB — November 28, 2008 – Mehfil Magazine is published monthly and highlights the achievements and focuses on the success of Indo-Canadians.
Raj’s story unfolds from a bold beginning where both her and her husband, Raj Narayanaswamy, quit their stable jobs to start their own company; a move that made friends question if they had lost their minds.
“We were questioning ourselves, too: Are we the right people to do this? Do we still believe in this? What are we doing wrong?” recalls Raj of those early struggles.
They took a very small application that they were most familiar with — time sheets — and developed a program that helps companies track the time it takes for their employees to complete a project, which in turn helps those companies with billing, as well as accurate estimation of future projects.
In 1998, Web TimeSheet 1.0 was released to the public and took less than a month to make their first sale to a PR firm in Seattle. Today, Replicon has over 1.2 Million users in 6700 customers in 60 countries. The two-person operation has ballooned to 150 staff in multiple offices worldwide.
They’re currently considering expansion into Europe, Australia and Dubai. Top-tier clients include Hewlett-Packard, Nike, Amazon, BP Oil, Volvo and Ferrari. Failure, it would appear, has been neutralized.
