TAKT is a German word that translates to “rhythm”, “beat” or “pulse”. As the word says, TAKT time is the pace at which manufacturing should happen in order to satisfy a customer’s demand. This demand is calculated by the total purchase of the product per day.

Takt time is the rate at which production should happen to meet customer demand.

## Calculating TAKT Time

To calculate the TAKT Time, there are two components that have to be measured first.

• Net Production Time and
• Customer Demand

The Net Production Time is the total time the team has to complete a given task or the manufacturing of a particular product. This can be calculated by taking into account the total working hours, subtracting the lunch breaks, meetings time, rest breaks, etc. This time can be tracked and computed using Replicon’s Time card calculator.

Customer Demand is by monitoring the sales of the product. This is done by calculating sales per day.

So divide the total work time in a day by the number of products your customers require on that particular day to the TAKT Time.

## Example of a TAKT Time Calculation

There is a Biscuit manufacturing company. Customers buy 500 units of their product per day. So the company has to manufacture 500 units each day in order to meet the customers’ demand.

The working hours of the company are 12 hours per day. So the TAKT time is calculated as

“Number of Production hours available / Customer demand per day = TAKT Time”

12 hours / 500 biscuits

The TAKT time is 1.44 minutes. This means that an employee should start the production of a biscuit every 1.44 minutes in order to keep pace with customer demand.
