Applicable To: Internet Explorer 8

Symptoms:
If the idle time on Web TimeSheet is too long and the user accesses other web based application, after certain period of time when he logs back to Web TimeSheet gets the following error message and the application logs out the user,
"A script on this page is causing your web browser to run slowly"

Cause:
This issue occurs due to the fact that Internet Explorer 8 does not have the capability to handle too many style keys, due to which it gives an error regarding script on page.

Resolution:
To resolve the issue, follow the steps given below:

  • Method A:
  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. In the Internet Options dialog box, click Advanced.
  4. Click to select the Disable script debugging check box.
  5. Click to clear the Display a notification about every script error check box.
  6. Click OK.
  • Method B:

This includes creating a new D Word in the Windows Registry so that Internet Explorer is forced to handle more number of styles at a given point of time.
Note: Make sure to take a back up of the Registry before making any changes.

  • To a new D Word in the Windows Registry, follow the steps given below:
  1. Click Start -> Run -> regedit.
  2. Open this key: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternetExplorerStyles.
  3. In case if the key is present then, right-click anywhere in the right pane and create a new DWORD value called MaxScriptStatements (copy and paste that in to the name box) and set the value to the desired number of script statements.
  4. Provide a value of 5,000,000.

Note: If the styles key is not present, create a new key that is called Styles.

  • To create the new key, follow the steps given below:
  1. Right-click on Internet Explorer key and create a new key by the name of Styles.
  2. Right-click anywhere in the right pane and create a new DWORD value called MaxScriptStatements (copy and paste that in to the name box) and set the value to the desired number of script statements.
  3. Provide a value of 5,000,000.
  4. Close the registry editor window and restart the system for the changes to take place.
  5. Launch Web TimeSheet and the error would not appear anymore.
