The error message "Timesheet Validation Rule cannot be empty" occurs when a validation rule is not setup in Web TimeSheet and if the administrator accidentally clicks on the 'Add Validation Rule' button under the 'Advanced' tab of a user profile and navigates to a different tab to edit various other settings (like Time Off, E-mail) and then clicks on the 'Save' button for the changes to take effect.

When there is no validation rule setup in Web TimeSheet and upon clicking the 'Add Validation Rule' creates a new row with empty 'Start Date', 'End Date' and 'Timesheet Validation Rule' fields. This row remains active even after navigating to a different tab and upon clicking on the 'Save' button to save the user profile, the error message appears notifying the administrator as the Timesheet Validation Rule cannot be empty".


  • Click the Advanced tab under the user profile.
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page to look for the Timesheet Validation Rule option.
  • Click the Delete button (the Red 'X' icon) next to the new empty row of validation rule that was added to the user profile.
  • Save the user profile.
