Web TimeSheet does not have a global setting that would enforce task selection on a timesheet.
However, following the below mentioned workaround would ensure that users will have to select a task to enter time against a project.

  • Log in as an administrator or with administrative privileges.
  • Click on the Administration tab and then click on System Preferences under System? section in the side menu.
  • Go to Timesheet Screen and ensure that Split project/task into two columns on timesheet is selected.
  • Click on Save.
  • Now go to Projects and on the list projects page, choose the project for which task selection is mandatory.
  • Double click on the project. Under Project Structure, click on the Project Name and ensure that Time Entry Allowed is unchecked.
  • Make sure the tasks in the project have Time Entry Allowed enabled.
  • Click on Save.

If there are multiple projects that need to edited, you can select them all and click on the Edit button at the bottom of the screen. On the resultant screen, ensure that Time Entry Allowed is unchecked and click on save. This will mass edit the selected projects to ensure that time can only be entered after selecting a task.
