Restoring a *.qbb company backup file in QuickBooks 99, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003:

 

1.      Start QuickBooks.

2.      If you backed up to removable media, insert the media in the drive (for example, in drive D: or drive A:).

3.      Choose File > Restore.

4.      In QuickBooks 99 and 2000, skip to step 6.

5.      In QuickBooks 2001, 2002, and 2003:

a.       The Restore Company Backup dialog box displays..

b.      Choose the 'top' Browse button in 'Get Company Backup From.' (In QuickBooks 2001, choose the 'top' Change button.)

6.      Restore From displays a list of folders.

7.      In 'Look in' choose the CD-R, CD-RW, or other drive (for example, D: or A:).

8.      If your *.qbb backup file is in a folder, change to that folder.

9.      Select you the *.qbb you want to restore.

10.    IMPORTANT: If more than one *.qbb displays, right-click on the *.qbb.

a.       Choose Properties.

b.      On the General tab, verify the Created/Modified dates are the *.qbb you want to restore.

c.       Choose OK to close Properties.

11.  On 'Restore From' choose Open.

12.  In QuickBooks 99 and 2000, Restore From changes to Restore To:

a.       If 'Save in:' has the correct location (for example, QuickBooks YOUR VERSION) skip to step 'c.'

b.      If the folder is not correct, change to the correct folder.

c.       Choose Save to close Restore To.

d.      If a *.qbw with the same name is in the folder, Restore To warns the file "… already exists. Do you want to replace it?" Choose Yes if you are sure. Skip to step 14.

e.       If you are not sure, choose No and return to step 'b' above.

 

              13.  In QuickBooks 2001, 2002, and 2003 the Restore Company Backup dialog box displays:

a.       If 'Restore Company Backup To' has the correct location (for example, QuickBooks YOUR VERSION), skip to step 'c.'

b.      If the folder is not correct, choose the 'bottom' Browse and change to the correct folder.

c.       Choose Save to close Restore To.

d.      If a *.qbw with the same name exists in the folder, Restore To warns the file "… already exists. Do you want to replace it?" Choose Yes if you are sure. Skip to step 'f.'

e.       If you are not sure, choose No and return to step 'b' above.

f.        Choose Restore on the Restore Company Backup dialog box.

g.       If a *.qbw with the same filename is in the folder, Backup displays, "You are choosing to overwrite an existing company file. Are you sure?"

h.       If you are sure, choose Yes to restore the *.qbb over the *.qbw and skip to step 14.

i.         If you are not sure, choose No and return to step 'b' above.

14.  QuickBooks Delete Entire File displays, "Caution! You are about to permanently delete this data file. Are you sure? Type 'YES' to confirm."

a.       If you are certain, type YES.

b.      Choose OK and skip to step 15.

c.       If you are not certain, choose Cancel to stop restoring the *.qbb.

d.      Return to step 12 or 13 and locate the correct *.qbb.

15.  QuickBooks Information displays, "Your data has been restored successfully."

16.  Choose OK to close the message and see your restored company file.

17.  If you restored from removable media, remove the media from the drive (for example, from drive D: or drive A:).
