To manually create a backup of your QuickBooks data:

  1. On the File menu, click Back up.
  2. If this is the first time you've backed up your QuickBooks data, you may see the Portable Company File Feature dialog box. -Select Do not display this message in the future, and click OK to proceed.
  3. In the QuickBooks Backup dialog box, click Disk.
  4. Click Browse to select the filename and location for your backup file.
  5. In the Back Up Company to dialog box, click the appropriate folder or location in the Save in list.
  6. Verify or change the File name.
  7. Ensure that QBW Backup (*.QBB) is selected in Save as type.
  8. Click Save to return to QuickBooks Backup.
  9. Select Verify data integrity in the QuickBooks Backup dialog box.
  10. Click OK to begin the backup process.
  11. After the backup completes, click OK to return to QuickBooks Home.

Note: If you store data for more than one company, make sure that the company whose data you want to back up is the active company.
