Previously, TANDBERG Television relied on manual Excel spreadsheets and paper-based systems to administer holiday requests. With more than 400 employees in the UK, maintenance of time-off requests and balances proved to be labor intensive and prone to inaccuracies. As a result, approval cycles became lengthy and drawn-out.

 

According to Karen Duffy, Business Analyst of TANDBERG Television, they were in need of employee vacation tracking software to help them “cut down the effort currently employed in administering our paper-based system where our secretaries handle paper [trails] from [hundreds of] employees.” More specifically, they needed a solution that was Internet based with approval routing.

The Results
User adoption of the software was immediate. Employees were submitting their time-off requests correctly and on time within minutes, thanks to the easy-to-use interface. Since the software was web based, managers could approve time off online, and the time-off process from submission to approvals now took a few hours instead of days, freeing their Human Resources Department to work on other activities.

 

The reporting feature gave managers an at-a-glance look at how much time their employees were taking and where they could afford to have minimal staff for those time periods, saving the company in overtime and vacation time costs.

 

Managers could rely on the comprehensive audit trails to understand the time off taken, requested, approved and rejected, helping them predict resources for cover off and thereby increasing productivity for Tandberg Television overall.
