Facebook is an Internet phenomenon that has swept the entire online world by storm in as little as 18 months. Facebook-a-holics now exist at every workplace, and can often waste an incredible amount of time at work.
An Australian study by SurfControl speculates that Facebook is responsible for an estimated $5 Billion in productivity losses to the Australian business economy.
Based on the average Australian salary, for every one employee that spends an hour each workday on Facebook, at year-end, their employer foots the bill of AU$6200.
"With 800,000 businesses in Australia, these figures translate to AU$5 Billion a year" says SurfControl, and that's only at ONE employee per business!
Wasting time has been around since the invention of work. Be it Facebook and Instant Messengers for the new-age time-wasters, or Solitaire in the days before high speed Internet, some people will waste time by any means necessary. Easy access to the Internet simply provides a myriad of new methods for time-wasters, opposed to the years before computers where doodling and staring off into space was fashionable.
If employees do not have a real-time, project managing software system in place, the door is wide open for them to waste time and cost company-productivity by entering inaccurate time against internal or external projects causing inconsistent data and redundancy in administrative hours to correct the issue.
With an automated timesheet program, employees can enter their project time in real-time, keeping up-to-the-minute records of what they are working on whether they are in their office, at a client's office, home, or anywhere else with an Internet connection!
